Psilocybe cubensis AMVP - history, properties and cultural significance

Psilocybe cubensis, also known as the Cuban coot, is one of the most recognised psilocybin mushroom species in the world. Among the many varieties, AMVP (Albino Most Valuable Producer) attracts particular attention - unique for its almost snow-white appearance and for its collecting and research value. In the following article, we take a closer look at the history of these fascinating organisms - from ancient times to modern scientific laboratories.

Where did Psilocybe cubensis come from?

Although many associate them with 20th century psychedelic culture, Psilocybe cubensis have been known to mankind for thousands of years. They were first described in 1906 by American mycologist Franklin Sumner Earle as Stropharia cubensis. The current valid name was given in 1948 by Rolf Singer.

These fungi occur naturally in tropical and subtropical climates - in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia. They are coprophilous organisms that thrive on animal faeces, which encourages their rapid growth in high humidity and temperature conditions.

Sacred fungi: Psilocybe in Pre-Columbian cultures

In Aztec and Mayan cultures, Psilocybe cubensis were revered as teonanácatl, or 'divine mushrooms'. They were used in religious, divination and healing rituals. Historical sources, such as the Florentine Codex of the 16th century, describe how communities of the time used these mushrooms to 'communicate with spirits' and cure diseases of the soul.

With Spanish colonisation and religious repression, these rituals went underground. For several centuries, knowledge of psilocybin almost disappeared.

A renaissance of interest in the 20th century

In the 1950s, the subject resurfaced thanks to R. Gordon Wasson, who in 1955 participated in a Mexican ritual involving psilocybin mushrooms. Working with Maria Sabina - a local curandera - he brought samples to Europe, where Albert Hofmann (creator of LSD) isolated psilocybin and psilocin from them.

A publication in LIFE Magazine entitled Seeking the Magic Mushroom (1957) helped popularise psychedelic mushrooms among young people, scientists and artists.

Experiments on therapeutic use were conducted by m.in. Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert of Harvard University. However, in 1971, under political pressure, psilocybin was outlawed in many countries, including Poland, where it is classified as an I-P psychotropic substance.

AMVP - a unique variety of Psilocybe cubensis

AMVP (Albino Most Valuable Producer) is a unique variety of Psilocybe cubensis. It is distinguished from others by its albino morphology - white caps, light-coloured stems and distinctive spore appearance. Its greatest advantage is its abundant spores and rapid mycelial development, making it ideal for microscopic examination and collection records.

AMVP has been selected with research applications in mind - it contains no active psychoactive substances until it develops fruiting bodies, which is why it is legal to possess its spores in many countries, including Poland.

Psilocybe mushrooms and modern science

Thanks to increasing decriminalisation and growing interest in the science of psychedelics, Psilocybe cubensis is returning to favour. Research from Imperial College London, Johns Hopkins University and other research centres points to the potential use of psilocybin in the treatment of:

  • drug-resistant depression,

  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder),

  • addictions (alcohol, nicotine),

  • existential anxiety in terminal patients.

Clinical trials of psilocybin as a treatment for so-called Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PAT) are also currently underway.

Summary

Psilocybe cubensis AMVPs are a remarkable variety of fungi with a rich history, aesthetic appeal and great relevance to modern science. Although they have been a ritual and spiritual object for centuries, today they inspire generations of researchers and mycological enthusiasts. AMVPs remain one of the most valued research materials that - despite legal restrictions - can be legally analysed in laboratories and home collections.

FullAuto what does this mean?

Thanks to the solution used, you do NOT have to

- rehydrate the mycelium

- chill in the fridge

- ventilate / fan

- tape up the sides

- spray the walls with water

All you need to do is store the growkit at 21°C-25°C degrees away from areas where contaminants may be in the air.

The Growbag does not require any action on your part. This allows you to enjoy and observe the development of the mycelium.

Thanks to the larger surface area and larger capacity, the yields *only in countries where it is allowed are much higher than in growbags with a smaller capacity. The number of harvests is directly proportional to the area and capacity and thus to the performance of the growkit

This product is intended for microscopic research purposes only

The cultivation of mushrooms is not permitted in Poland. This description applies only to countries where the cultivation of Psilocybe Cubensis mushroom fruiting bodies is permitted.

Make sure before purchasing whether you are allowed to cultivate only mycelium or also mushroom fruiting bodies in your country. If the fruiting bodies (mushrooms) are illegal in your country, pour fungicide over the kit within 72 hours of receiving the shipment.

AMVP (Albino Most Valuable Producer) Full Auto User Manual

How does the Full Auto growkit work?

The AMVP Full Auto growkit is an innovative solution that makes growing mycelium at home simple and hassle-free. Thanks to this technology, the growkit does not require any intervention or additional maintenance. All you have to do is put it up and watch the colonisation process. However, it is important to keep a few key principles in mind.

Key conditions for proper colonisation

Suitable temperature and light

For proper development of AMVP mycelium, the growkit should be placed in a place with a temperature of 20-25°C. It is important to avoid direct sunlight - the growkit is best left in the shade. Temperatures above 25°C can lead to suffocation of the mycelium and destruction of the product.

Proper ventilation

Ensuring proper ventilation is crucial for mycelial growth. Growkit should be in a well-ventilated room, away from closed cupboards, cardboard boxes or cellars. It is important that the bag is upright and that the filter does not stick to the back of the growkit.

Risk of suffocating the mycelium

Lack of air access to the filter can lead to suffocation of the mycelium. So avoid a situation where the filter is covered or blocked to ensure free airflow.

Protection against pests

During spring and summer, it is a good idea to avoid placing growkit near plants. Plants can harbour pathogens that can infect the mycelium by entering through cuts in the filter. For this reason, you should also not seal the filter.

What should be avoided during cultivation?

  • Storing growkit in the fridge - low temperatures can damage the mycelium.
  • Cutting and flooding the growkit - such actions can lead to damage to the product.

Summary

Growkit AMVP (Albino Most Valuable Producer) Full Auto is a convenient solution for people who want to grow mycelium at home without complicated handling. All you need to do is take care of the right conditions such as temperature, ventilation and pest protection to enjoy a trouble-free colonisation process.
